Dyslexia, the Education System and Life in general

Links and Useful Information

www.iassnetwork.org.uk – Parent Partnership (now called) Information, Advice and Support Services Network – find your local group as soon as you can. These people are there to help, they understand the system and they are there to help you through the whole process. They are funded by the Local Authorities, so they are there to guide you rather than fight for you. They really want what is best for the children and are probably your best foundation step in getting support and advice.

www.bdadyslexia.org.uk – British Dyslexia Association – telephone advice line, informative website and occasionally courses for parents.

www.dittas.org – Dittas Limited (Dyslexia Information, Training, Teaching and Assessment Service). This is where my daughter had her Dyslexia Assessment, and I can’t praise them highly enough.

www.sossen.org.ukSOS!SEN – Amazing group, they have a National Advice line (0208 538 3731) and walk in advice centres at; Thornton Heath, Aldershot, Hampton Court and Waterloo. I visited them in Hampton with all my paperwork, and they helped me form a plan of action and draft a letter to my Local Authority. They do amazing work, they now run Workshops and also have a Children’s Charity Shop ‘All4Kids’ open in Hampton and second about to open in New Malden (on 3rd May).

www.ipsea.org.uk – IPSEA – website and telephone advice line. The phone line is answered by very knowledgeable/experience volunteers. Almost impossible to get through to, but definitely worth the effort.

www.dyslexiaaction.org.uk – Dyslexia Action – Dyslexia Assessments, telephone advice line, courses for children.  I’ve never used them, but they seem to be the main people to go to if you are near enough.

www.arkellcentre.org.uk – Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre – Dyslexia Assessments, courses for children and parents.

www.thedyslexia-spldtrust.org.uk – The Dyslexia SpLD Trust – one of the main dyslexia organisations.

www.specialneedsjungle.com – Special Needs Jungle – This website is well worth a look to keep up to date on what is going on in the world of Special Needs.

www.crested.org.uk – CReSTeD – When looking for a school that specialises in Dyslexia in any way, this is the site to go to.  Schools can be search by area or by the type of provision they have from small ‘Withdrawal System’ to full ‘Dyslexia Specialist Provision’.

www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about/projects/children-will-shine – Children Will Shine – Groups run for children by the British Dyslexia Association.

Local Dsylexia Associations are so important to meet people that are going through the same issues. Here are a couple of my nearest ones. Please leave a comment with any extra links that I should add to this page.

Thank you.

www.croydononline.org/dyslexia – Croydon Dyslexia Association

www.richmonddyslexia.org.uk – Richmond Dyslexia Association

https://www.facebook.com/groups/dyslexiasupportUK/ – Dyslexia support UK (UK only)  – This is a brilliant Facebook page, which I have seen offering some brilliant sound advice, and most they answer questions quickly too.
